World Literature
Core Curriculum – Humanities Subjects
At Tisa School, great emphasis is placed on humanities subjects, which include reading, world literature, foreign language studies, and social sciences. All subjects are taught in a transdisciplinary manner and interconnected.

World classical literature provides students with an understanding of the world, and a moral and ethical foundation, and teaches timeless values such as friendship, love, humility, compassion, and empathy. In books, children encounter different characters and situations, learn about various societies and cultures, and immerse themselves in different historical epochs.
Our literature program aims to help students gain knowledge and skills:
  • Genres
Explore various literary genres encompassing fiction, non-fiction, poetry, drama, and more. Delve into the intricacies of each genre to understand their unique characteristics, themes, and styles.
  • Biographies
Introduce readers to the captivating lives and works of renowned writers from around the globe. Gain insights into their personal stories, struggles, triumphs, and the influences that shaped their literary endeavors.
  • World Literature
Embark on a journey through the diverse and vibrant tapestry of world literature. We've carefully selected the top classic world literary works for children, categorized by grade levels.
  • Analytical Skills Development
Refine analytical skills to engage with texts of various genres and complexities. Learn to discern underlying themes, decipher contextual nuances, identify key points, and adeptly summarize content while employing sophisticated vocabulary.
  • Reading Skills
We emphasise developing technical reading skills, including assessing reading speed and teaching strategies for rapid comprehension. Additionally, we foster expressive reading-aloud abilities. Children aged 5 and older are encouraged to participate in daily reading sessions lasting a minimum of 30 minutes.
  • Writing
Encourage the cultivation of independent expression through crafting fictional narratives, essays, compositions, and poetry. Explore diverse writing styles including descriptive, narrative, expository, and persuasive. Develop storytelling techniques, refine persuasive writing skills, and nurture a unique voice that resonates authentically on the page. Inspire students to consider publishing their works, offering them the opportunity to explore the realms of self-expression and creativity.
  • Storytelling through Performance
Engage in diverse forms of theatrical expression:
    • Puppetry
    • Shadow play
    • Physical embodiment
    • Animate situations, character traits, and narratives, embodying roles and bringing stories to life through performance.
  • Love for reading
Inspire a lifelong passion for reading while nurturing the habit of immersive and regular engagement with literature. Cultivate an appreciation for the written word, fostering empathy, creativity, and intellectual curiosity through the transformative power of storytelling.
